Vahanga

Some highly endangered birds, the Tuamotu Sandpiper (Aechmorhynchus cancellata) and the Polynesian Grounddove (Gallicolumba erythroptera) make several attempts to colonise the Vahanga Atoll from the neighbouring Tenararo Atoll. Unfortunately these efforts failed so far because of the many rats on Vahanga. But since 2006 there has been started a 'restoration program' for the Vahanga Atoll, which also includes eradication-actions against the rat plague.
