The Tuvalu Archipelago consists of nine atolls, whose land areas together reach not more than 26 kmē, what makes Tuvalu the fourth smallest state in the world.

The two atolls of Funafuti and Nukufetau are in a stage of complete dispersion, this in fact natural process is certainly quickened by the rising of the sea level as a consequence of the advancing climatic change.

The number of native plant species is quite low, of interest may be the natural occurence of several mangrove species, but endemic species are absent.
